My Goldschmidt

Role functions

Details for: Thomas Algeo

I earned a Ph.D. at the University of Michigan in 1989, working with Prof. Bruce Wilkinson on field and theoretical studies of cyclicity in stratigraphic successions. After two years at Exxon, I joined the faculty of the Department of Geology at the University of Cincinnati, where I am now a full professor. Since 2013, I have been a visiting research scholar at the China University of Geosciences in Wuhan, China. My academic research has focused on (1) analysis of paleoceanographic and paleoclimatic conditions during major bioevents in Earth history, and (2) development of geochemical proxies for paleoenvironmental analysis. I was a member of a U.S. National Academy of Sciences committee on Deep-Time Climate Research, am currently editor-in-chief of Palaeogeography Palaeoclimatology Palaeoecology, have guest edited special issues of six different journals, and organized many theme sessions at professional meetings as well as a number of departmental and society-sponsored field trips.
