I have 10 years of experience conducting research in the academic, private, and public sectors. My research has focussed on examining the role that microbes play in determining the fate of inorganic and organic contaminants in the environment. My Ph.D. research outlined novel metabolic pathways in photosynthetic and anaerobic bacteria that could affect mercury cycling. I am currently working as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Waterloo, using 'omics (total DNA, RNA, and proteins) to study the cycling of contaminants in landfills and mining sites. My ultimate goal is to develop an independent research program to create innovative bioremediation strategies for the natural resource sector.
