My Goldschmidt

Role functions

Details for: Evgenia Salin

I obtained a Master’s degree in Geology and Mineralogy at the University of Turku (Finland). Earlier, I achieved a degree in Geology in Petrozavodsk State University (Russia). Along with studying I have been working since the year 2006 in companies focused on different spheres related to geology. All these allowed me to acquire a solid knowledge and valuable experience in various fields of geology. I was able to perceive the complexity of this field and realized that I would like to develop my career as a doctoral student of the University of Turku. Despite staying only within the frames of the university program, I attended various courses in other universities dedicated among others to the rock forming processes, geochemistry, geochronology and ore geology. Although I specialized in hard-rock geology, I deepened my knowledge in sedimentary rocks being an exchange student in Norway. Studies within these allied fields of science helped me to understand that only comprehensive approach to the problem can make the project more feasible. I always adhere to this approach during my current research as a PhD student. Furthermore, I am a rather communicative person and started to build up my scientific network already from my years as an undergraduate student. I take pride in my ability as a public speaker, which I use when presenting my research at conferences (Nordic Geological Winter Meeting 2016, 2018, 2020; Colloquium in geosciences 2018, EGU 2019, etc.). My current research belongs to the Precambrian units beneath the Baltic Sea. They are are not well-understood due to a thick sedimentary cover and sea water. The purpose of the research is to determine boundaries of the Precambrian crustal units below Gotland, Öland and the adjacent Baltic Sea area between southeastern Sweden and Lithuania/Poland based on petrological, geochemical and isotopic studies.
