Details for: Mark Patrick Taylor


Mark Patrick Taylor is a Professor of Environmental Science at Macquarie University. His research program investigates environmental contamination in aerosols, dusts, sediments, soil and water and risks to human health. The focus of his research relates to impacts from mining and smelting emissions and depositions. Industrial contamination in non-mining locations has also formed part of his work, including the community science VegeSafe program that offers free soil metal analysis for household gardeners (https://research.science.mq.edu.au/vegesafe/). His work spans Australia, Asia, Fiji, New Zealand and the USA. Recent work in Australia has examined contamination and environmental management issues in Broken Hill, Darwin (Kakadu), Mount Isa, Port Pirie, Newcastle, Sydney and Townsville. His professional experience includes being a former Commissioner of the NSW Land and Environment Court and expert advisor to a range of government, industry and community organisations. He is currently finalising a review of the NSW EPA’s management of contaminated sites for the NSW Minister for the Environment (http://www.epa.nsw.gov.au/MediaInformation/taylor-report-williamtown.htm). He has published > 120 research papers and a similar number of other research reports, which have received significant coverage in the media.
