These are extremely interesting carbonatites. How deep does the weathered zone that is rich in REE extend? I'm interested in the presence of low-Th monazite as well, do you think this has formed as part of the weathering process?

Is there any evidence of deformation (e.g. foliation trace) associated to the hydrothermal recrystallisation of REE-bearing mineral phases ?
