Thankyou for the presentation John. Do you know for sure that the REE in these rocks occur in phosphate minerals, or could they be adsorbed onto mineral surfaces? Are the phosphate minerals that are present detrital, or formed during diagenesis?
Thank you for your question Kathryn. It is not certain if the REEs in these rocks are found in mineral phosphates, from the preliminary statistical study it seems that the HREE are associated with mineral phosphates. I am looking to collaborate to do LA-ICP-MS analysis of these rocks and determine this. It is possible that mineral phosphates were formed in the sedimentation environment and / or diagenesis, the apatite for example, since the environment could have a shallow carbonate platform.
