Hi Charlie, how do you interpret the absolute and relative abundances of the orangeites other than just reflecting the variable mantle sources? Thanks, Jingao
Hi Jingao, thank you for your question. Are you are eluding to the (absolute and relative) PGE concentrations? If so, yes, while mantle heterogeneity is likely occurring in the source it is also possible that upon ascent the magmas entrained material with very low Pd/Ir (potentially podiform chromitite from the subducting oceanic slab that has been dispersed through the SCLM) - the variable entrainment of this material may account for some of the variability observed across the orangeites.
