I am not sure if this is the right revenue to ask, as the question really concerns the original 2011 Sun and Bao papers. At any rate, my question is whether the thermally induced non-mass-dependent production of 17 & 18O was caused by the ozone recombination reaction. The experiment was set at a Pyrex enclosure, so a small portion of the O2 can be photo-dissociated into O(1D), and combine with O2 molecule to form O3, similar to what happened in the troposphere today. Because the O(1D) production is small, the production of cap-delta-17O in both the O3 and then O2 are small( again, analogous to the troposphere)?
