Are there any known health effects on marine biota or humans from the metal and organic contamination you have documented?
Yes, there are. PAH for example are capable of inducing mutation, cause cancer and alter normal embryonic development. Also zinc is known to cause respiratory issues in fishes.

Hello, Thanks for uploading your presentation. I am curious about the discharge of the produced water after basic oil-water separation. Are there environmental standards in place for the discharge to the river or any specific treatment that occurs before discharge? Were the heavy metal concentrations high in the produced water effluent? Thank you!
Yes, there are environmental standards that must be met before produced water is discharged. The heavy metals concentrations were not high in the produced water effluent. But this study shows that despite the low concentration in the effluent, continuous discharge can lead to the build up of these to the point of deteriorating the water body.
